(minus the lions and tigers...)
Yesterday was the epitome of a first day off after working three nights in a row...I came home with every intention of at least walking poor Kiva who pretty much spent Thursday through Sunday morning in her kennel (I worked and John is out of town). I managed to get out of work a little early, but I had a killer headache, so I ended up just going to sleep for a few hours. Then I got up, had coffee with my dad, came home and ate lunch, then had coffee with CK. By the time I got home it was 4:00 and I needed to eat again before I even thought about going running, so I had a snack and then proceeded to fall asleep on the couch for two hours. When I woke up it was 6:15...and I was hungry again. So I ate a piece of toast with a little PB and got myself ready to go.
When I asked Kiva if she wanted to go running, all four of her feet left the ground and she did a spin in midair. I took that as a yes.
Off we went armed with a nerdy science podcast to entertain me and Kiva with a little extra pep in her step (although she usually has a fair amount of pep, so who knows how I could tell). The weather was quite nice after we had a mid-afternoon clear-up snow shower, so I planned to go for at least an hour.
We ran in the woods a little (Tour of Anchorage trail), but it was mucky and Kiva was acting strange so we went back to the bike path. She was still acting a little funny, but I did not observe any immediate danger, so we continued on our way.
On our way back home we saw a bunch of people pulled over on the side of the road (Elmore) watching a black bear, who (unfortunately) was headed in the same direction as we were. So we altered our course and headed (quickly) for home.
Best running buddy ever! Thanks for trying to tell me there was a bear around even when I couldn't see it!
